New Year, New Goals To Reduce Screen-time

Updated: Jan 10

Global detox challenge. Join the digtal wellness revolution and recharge this new year by going 24 hours offline.

On Sunday, January 12th, 2025 Calgary-based, Noble technology is calling on Albertans to join the second annual 24-Hour Digital Detox, Global Community Challenge

"Lead by The Offline Club (@theoffline_club) whose mandate is to "swap screen time for real-time", we're encouraging  Albertans to join in, for the sake of their own health and well-being. This is a FREE digital detox challenge where you and your family commit to going offline. No screens, no tech for 24 hours!", says Tara Stewart, founder and CEO of Noble technology.

Why?

There is a growing body of research showing that too much screen time (in particular - time spent on social media) is at least partly to blame for skyrocketing rates of anxiety and depression.

Tweens and Teens: By age 12, seven out of ten kids own a smartphone. They spend about 8 hours a day online, viewing TikTok trends and turning their daily lives into Snapchat and Instagram content. (Source: The Common Sense Census, Media Use By Teens & Tweens)

Users aged 16 to 64 worldwide spent 6 hours and 40 minutes per day on screens across various devices. That equals 46 hours and 40 minutes for average screen time per week. (Source: DataReport.com, 2024). "Just like Dry January has the potential to re-calibrate our relationship with alcohol, taking a mindful break from screentime for 24 hours, can be a great first step to re-balancing our on-line habits/addictions. Many of us know we spend too much time online and want to make changes. This is a great catalyst for that," says Stewart.

How?

Get your family and friends involved. Plan an activity, reconnect with nature (the forecast on Sunday looks great!), spend quality time with loved ones, explore a hobby that interests you, or read a paperback.

Sign up at @theoffline_club for help preparing and to connect to a global community going offline on January 12th. It's a movement. Let's do this.
