NOBLE Alliance Partner Spotlight: Encode Canada

ree

Across North America, there’s a growing recognition of the urgent need for ethical frameworks in the development and deployment of artificial intelligence. As organizations increasingly rely on technology to drive decisions that impact us all, it has become critical to understand and address the risks associated with unchecked innovation.

Encode Canada is the Canadian Chapter of Encode, a US-based non-profit with over 1,000 members in 30 countries.

Founded in 2021, Encode Canada conducts research, hosts events, and engages in advocacy work to bridge the gap between students and academics, professionals, and policymakers.

Their mission is to foster AI literacy and ethical awareness among Gen Z, empowering the next generation to not only participate in the AI revolution but to shape it responsibly. Through hands-on research, community events, and legislative engagement, they’re creating opportunities for young people not only to learn about ethical technology but also to lead the conversation.

Collaborators include notable Canadian organizations such as:

  • MILA – Quebec’s world-renowned AI research institute

  • MUTEK – An international festival celebrating digital creativity

  • Building 21 – An interdisciplinary idea lab at McGill University

  • Montreal AI Ethics Institute – A think tank focused on ethical AI deployment

These partnerships are creating a space where students, technologists, artists, and policy leaders can come together to build a more thoughtful, inclusive digital future.

How can you get involved? Support the movement by donating to Encode, subscribing to their mailing list, and joining the conversation. Visit Encode’s Linktree to learn more and take action.
